Eating the Road

Traffic everywhere, noisy streets, lights, smoky, a lot of electrical cords and huge billboards, this is the environment that you perceived outside the mall, but below that overpass, you can see an interesting dynamic.

If you see intensively, you can see something developing, like a theater or a dance, where every actor appears and develop a part… A cute old lady, was filling the plates with chicken, rice and beans, and of course tortillas and a beverage in a bag while two people were waiting their meals, another three were eating at a rustic table seating on a tree’s trunk. A guy wearing a shirt and blue jeans gives the food to some of them, “Here you are” said a tall man with a long sleeve T-shirt and a tie, like an executive of a bank to the guy in blue jeans, and give $1.50, “thank you” is the answer that generally the buyers received. A truck and a taxi driver stopped over there and ordered dishes of $1.25.

The weather is nice below the overpass; you can feel the cool breeze in your face and the big shadow bring it by the overpass benefit more, for these people it doesn’t matter the noisy street, they enjoy their meals and seem so happy, like if they have forgotten their troubles, it’s like a pause in a time, like a silence in a melody, is when you really can feel the music of your heart that mean that you’re living.

Eating the "Antiguo"

First thought:

"What do we eat?"

A very friendly "comedor" was on the scene, very nice smell, food and prices, an old lady with a lovely baby on her arms, 5 plates to go, chicken, rice, "casamiento" and "tortillas", pineapple juice, cars that pass by and people that pretend not to look at them, students, "pupuserias", and finally the square...

Second thought:

"Where do we eat?"

A very huge tree, decorate with thousands of flags, surrounded by little benches, the church, strangers that seem to know each other, a father with his little child, a preacher trying to convince a young member of a gang to come back to the church, we felt a little scared but a few police men were there, children of nobody are wandering around, like nothing can happened to them. Definitely, a very nice place to eat, even though nobody is doing it.

Finally, we found ourselves sitting on the ground, eating healthy and hand-made food, talking and feeling the wind, a very kind shadow, not too much noise, it seems amazing that this is the first time we're doing this, and more amazing that nobody else is doing it. We stop taking pictures some time ago, but the gang member has done nothing to us, he doesn't even care, so we take a few more pictures.

Sometimes, we found out that people eat in the most unusual places, and when there is a appropriate place to do it, they (and we) don't even care.
