Ricardo's Reflections

What do you think of yourself acting in public space?

To me the whole idea of acting in a public space depends on what's the point of going and making use of a certain place, personally I'm not than much into public activities in open spaces, I usually enjoy to spend most of the time by myself, but I don't mind going or acting in public as long as I can enjoy the place, maybe the company or whatever I'm doing there.

A person doesn't necessarily has to be the center of attention while acting in public, from passing an evening with a drink and a friend at a coffee shop, to dancing on a public restaurant or the simple act of crossing a street and walking on a sidewalk a human been is already acting in public, to like a certain public space or not depends on the taste of each person and the way each one of us uses and feels that place it's what makes acting in public a good and pleasant moment or a bad and terrible experience.

What do you think El Salvadorean attitude in public space is?

El Salvadorean attitude it's more a laid back and introverted attitude, because we are not used to talk to everyone we meet for the first time while hanging around in a public space, the familiar we get to a place the confortable we get while been in it, but our country has a social and cultural background of been a "dangerous place" and that's the reason why a lot of of people associates the words "been in public space" with been vulnerable or "been in a dangerous place".

While been in public most of Salvadoreans don't hang around with the most friendly attitude, because our defensive attitude doesn't allow us to trust everyone, maybe it depends on how paranoid a person is, but these you can't trust any stranger or anyone that's just passing by next to us, and that mentality doesn't let many people enjoy been in a public space, so that's could be the reason why many public spaces in our country are just "passing by spaces".
