INSTALLATIONS AND EXPERIMENTS...

On day four we gave each group a challenge: they had to design a simple installation at given sites taking into account the qualities of the places they were reasearching the past two days. Of course the given words were to lead the path to create sensations for each site.

They had two hours to go the site, visualize its potential, design a simple installation and test it with people passing by during lunch time. Here are some images of the process...

(IM)PERFECT

The group (IM)PERFECT had as site the pedestrian path after one of UCA entrances (entrada peatonal from Antiguo Cuscatlán). They soon were able to put on an (im)perfect tent, a table and chairs were later they were to share food with strangers passing by... Even though the rain came before they had started to test fully their installation, the weather event didn't stop them from having very interesting conclusions...!!!

(IN)FORMALITY

A bit further in the same path leading to the A building, we had the installation of the (IN)FORMALITY group. They also decided to use textiles, however this was not completely a 'tent' feeling beacuse it had a roof on top, instead it looked more as ceiling and curtains creating a 'lounge' atmosphere. They wanted to transform a formal place by placing on it informal elements which later by the use would turn themsleves in something formal... and it worked!!!!

INTIMACY

In the middle of the architecture 'forest' we found the installation of the INTIMACY group. This was organized also as a lounge place inspired by oriental tents with a carpet, pillows, curtains, candles, plants, hammocks and a canopy covering it all. The hammocks along the pedestrian path were an inmediate success!!! people came over to lie on them, even when the installation was still on process...

DISCOVERY

DISCOVERY group had as site UCA's main cafeteria. They did a really interesting experiment turning around tables and chairs in a kind of labyrinth form, and then they embarqued in a series of little surprise actions to see how people reacts to unusual situations: leaving ballons to be exploded on the tables, sitting and talking with strangers, sitting very close to other costumers, etc. They had great discoveries!!!!

EPHEMERAL

I have to admit that at the beggining I didn't get completely the idea of the EPHEMERAL group, but later, when we meet them at their choosen site (one of two outside our campus) and explained what they did, they surprised me with a choice of ephemeral moments to leave behind to people in the city. They did this as street performancers (singing, dancing, etc.) while walking and traveling by bus on their way to the bus stop at La Gran Via commercial mall where they finally placed their installation. For me their experience was more on the way to the site, than in the site itself... very interesting!!!!

SHIFT IN TIME

And finally we have the SHIFT IN TIME group. They had as place to work the small ´pupuserías´ outside UCA. They wanted to create a feeling of shifting time by turning this small sidewalk and the eatering around in a completely different experience for all customers. They transformed the place with textile ceilings, palm leaves shadows, cartoon tubes to create a border, and then embarqued in set up an atmosphere with live music, dance and massages while eating blind folded!!!! They definetely shifted the time for customers and people passing by for a while...!!!!

We absolutely enjoyed all the installations and performances!!!!!!!!!!!! THANKS TO EVERYBODY!!!!
