(in)formality

In order to understand what informality is, I had to discover what formality is for me. For this, my group and I started writing down some words that made us think about formality; things like order, comfort, particular use, good condition, were part of our list. But then I started thinking that for me a formal place is one that counts with the basic things that make it what it is. In this case, an eating place needs tables, chairs, a kitchen, food refrigerators, a bar, a waiting area, among others, and if you think about it, this place had all of that! So for me, that makes it a formal place, but you can only discover that once you’re in there. Most people, including me last week, just pass by without even noticing there’s a nice place there, we just see some garbage and think it’s a dump, an informal place where we would never feel comfortable. I was surprised to find a place that could make me enjoy my day inside of what I thought was informal, so now I believe it’s very important to give places a chance, that way we can find the formality in informality.
